this is a exploit of the compression algorithms to make a small zip that will extract into extream amounts
their are more ways and better ones than this one but i will only show how to make a simple 1k = 1m ratio
open and type the null character (alt + 255)
press ctrl + a then ctrl + v a couple times to make some null bytes
if u have a hexeditor make the hex 00 for about 50 kilobytes
now make several copies of a.txt and name accordinly
open cmd.exe
type copy /b *.txt b.txt
now every copy is made into a super copy and repeat
once u have a nice empty big text file like 1gb
put it in a zip archive
because of the simple construction of the file
1gb of null bytes
the zip is only 1 mb in size and can really annoy freinds
for added fun hex edit the zip and u will see a bunch of hex 5555
just add some more and the file will expand amazingly
make sure to not open this after
You can always create your zip of death from the command line in linux
Intex IN 2222 – Rs 1999
A well-equipped entry level handset, the IN 2222 has a sleek black form factor with a 1.5 inch CSNT display, sporting a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and 65K colors. It has plenty of media functionality in terms of an audio player and an integrated FM radio, and photo and video caller tone support.
The In 2222 supports GPRS and comes with a few games and a flashlight feature as well. It offers all the basic functions like a calculator, calendar, to-do list, world clock, alarm etc. Aside from these it has a Blacklist function for blocking unwanted calls, as well as a 'Health' feature.
Nokia 2626 – Rs 2050
The 2626 is one of those ubiquitous handsets I was referring to earlier. It has a CSTN display that allows 65K colors at a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels. It's not a great-looking handset, to be honest. It’s a little pudgy, but it does have quite a few relevant features, considering its modest price range.
![[Image]](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_JT7BiL7v2XY/SOltIkk62qI/AAAAAAAAADw/C_21HRpwY_s/s200-R/img_82111_nokia_2626_450x360.jpg)
The 2626 has about 2MB of internal user memory. This GSM handset supports MP3 ringtones, but we’re not talking full tracks here. GPRS and WAP are supported, and you get a few games and an FM radio as well. It also supports JAVA MIDP 2.0. Other features include a calendar, calculator, currency converter, voice memo, and a built-in handsfree.
Samsung C170 – Rs 2200
The C170 is an extremely slim sleek handset with a depth of just 8.9mm. It has a 1.52 inch CSTN display with a 128 x128 pixel resolution and 65K colors. Aside from being a stylish entry-level handset, it offers some decent functions like GPRS (Class 10) and supports polyphonic ringtones. (Remember how popular those used to be at one time?)
Some other features Samsung has incorporated into the C170 include an integrated FM radio and a couple of games. This handset also has an organizer, calendar, currency converter, and a to-do list. The C170 has a built-in speaker for handsfree use and a voice recorder as well. The internal memory is just about 600KB.
Motorola W215 – Rs 2450
Motorola’s W215 is one of the more feature-rich handsets in this price bracket. It has a 640 x 480 VGA camera and video. The screen resolution is the similar to the others in this section – 65k colors CSTN with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution.
Sony Ericsson S500
The S500 slider is a delicately designed handset. It has floral themes for seasons and times of day as well. As you can see form the image, the themes gracefully complement the handset’s design. The keypad is a bit small, which lead me to believe that a woman’s touch would be perfect for it. The S500 comes with a 2MP camera that records video, and a media player that reads MP3 and AAC+ file formats. It uses M2 cards for external memory.
he handset supports GPRS/EDGE, email and Bluetooth with an A2DP profile. The lighting on the exterior is very classy yet refreshing, and that’s one of the reasons I’ve included this handset.
Nokia 7070 Prism
I’ve often regarded Nokia’s Prism series as fashion mobiles and that’s precisely what they’re marketed as. Their diamond-like cuts, the criss-cross pattern of the keypad, and smooth black exteriors with a blue, pink or green finish, give them an appealing look. The latest Prism handset is called the 7070 and is's taken a slight deviation from the original candybar design to a flip/clamshell phone, with a similar diamond like finish.
This handset, although stylish, is quite limited in terms of features. Among the exclusions are a camera and Bluetooth. The oddest thing is that even though it supports GPRS/EDGE it has no support for external memory and doesn’t even have a media player. Needless to say, this is just a handset you’d want for making and taking calls and messages, it’s an entry-level glamour phone and nothing more.
Fly SX100
One of the primary reasons for including this handset is that my girlfriend and mother both happened to like the design, but for some reason my dad and my best friend didn’t think it manly enough for their consideration. I have to admit I felt the same, but on the one hand this is a neatly designed handset; very slim and sleek.
It has a 2MP camera, microSD card support for external memory, media player, FM radio, and a hot swap slot for the SIM card. It supports WAP/GPRS for net connectivity and proprietary USB for PC connectivity. The SX100 comes with Stereo Bluetooth, a couple of games, and plenty of other relevant features. It’s feature-rich all right, but the design imparts a distinctly feminine feel to it.
MOTOPEBL U9
The U9 is a very elegant-looking oval-shaped clamshell handset, hence the name PEBL. Its glossy exterior and smooth edges give it a sexy look and feel. It has an exterior OLED display with touch-sensitive keys for audio control while you’re listening to music. The keypad is spaced out evenly for comfort.
The U9 is feature-rich, and comes with Stereo Bluetooth, USB v2.0, and GPRS/EDGE. It has a media player and a 2MP camera, and supports external memory expansion via microSD cards. I haven’t had the opportunity to review the handset, but I did get a chance to play with it at events, so I can say this is a quite a chick magnet. But not in the conventional sense; it attracts women as users.
LG KF510
The KF510 slider is quite a chic phone. It’s got a very slim and sleek finish, and a very smooth slide. The intuitive touch navigation system is quite jazzy, and not in a macho way. The colors make the handset rather 'shimmery', and all these words should pretty much give you a clue why I’ve included it.
The KF510 comes equipped with a 3MP auto focus camera with image stabilization technology. It has a media player and an integrated FM radio. Other features include GPRS/EDGE, USB v2.0, and Bluetooth with an A2DP profile. The handset uses microSD cards for external memory. It’s a neatly designed handset on the whole, with plenty of features.
This is just the first installment in a large list of handsets in this category, so if there are any more you guys or gals would like me to include, please leave a comment or mail me (with images, if you can). So ladies, I hope this feature helps you decide on a suitable handset. Of course, if you happen to be female and yet like macho-looking handsets, nothing stops you from looking at buying one of those. You have the best of both worlds!
_____Yamaha RD 350- Let me take you back in time. Does the name ring a bell? If it doesnt, dont bother reading any further. In a time when Bullets ruled roost, 11bhp bikes were called performance bikes, 4 speed bikes were the norm(though there were some three speeders too), there came a bike that had 39bhp of raw power, 2 cylinders, 6 speed gearbox and looks to die for. With that round headlamp, timeless shape, two silencers and buckets of chrome, which would never go out of fashion, it set youth’s hearts on fire. And when it was kickstarted and revved(in neutral) made an orgasmic sound that was never ever matched by any other bike. Put it in first gear, rev a little, let the clutch go and give throttle (just a bit or you’ll be below the bike in no time), and whoa! you’ll have both your balls down your throat. Such mindblowing acceleration, top speed, looks, sound, power delivery and most of all character can never ever be matched by any other bike. Period.
Bottomline- It still feels like riding a laser guided artillery shell with handlebars.
Performance- 200/100
Mileage- 30/100
Looks- 85/100
Fun Factor- 999/100
HH Karizma- Hero Honda, a name known for producing mileage monsters with rather pathetic names, first produced the first ever 150cc bike in the country, the CBZ. After its market share was killed by the Pulsar twins, came out fully loaded with a 223cc bike with a real sorry name. Karizma, now whats that supposed to mean? Released in mid 2003, the P180 classic(non-DTSi) ruled roost in the performance segment. Zma had a much longer wheelbase than the classic, a half-fairing(not the first though, remember LML Adreno?), had a digital meter which housed even a clock! More importantly, it was a full 2 bhp more than its nearest rival (discounting the Enfields). That was on paper. But on road, the P180 classic gave a tough chase to the Zma. Zma, known for its lazy long stroked engine is better known for touring. But nowadys, since zma has become a whole lot cheaper( aaargh.....my resale value’s down), roadside romeos buy zma and pose on it, putting loud ugly end cans and full fairings and ride helmetless. Crazy fools. But a fun dampner on an overall nice package is a lack of sound and vibes(thats a +ve point for some), which is frankly not my cup of tea. Though now i’ve redeemed it with a K&N filter, which makes music to my ears. A must buy for all those who own performance bikes(in the indian context :p)
Bottomline- It feels like watching an action film, with the TV on mute :D
Performance- 85/100
Mileage- 65/100
Looks- 70/100
FunFactor- 30/100
Bajaj Pulsar 180- The one bike which brought/will bring about the evolution of the zma, P250, fazer 250, TVS 250. There are three versions of this bike. First, bursting upon the sorry Indian biking scene came the 180 classic, tearing the competition apart. Then in September 2003 came out the Karizma challenger/beater in the form of Pulsar 180 Dtsi. Making just one odd bhp more on paper, it kicked all reigning bike’s arses. Then in December 2004, Bajaj added gas-shocks and alloy wheels to Pulsar’s portfolio. Also they slightly increased its wheelbase, and coupled with the decrease in height(due to 17 inchers) Pulsar’s stance was altered. Now it’s long and low. But, sadly they decreased its top speed. Positives were improved acceleration, midrange and Low end torque. In mid 2005, the alloys, exhaust, engine and its casings, saree guard, crash guard and chain cover were made black from the familier silver. What a change it made! Even now the Pulsar looks refreshing after four and a half years. Raw power was/is P180’s forte. Instant throttle response, responsive brakes and handling were always there from day 1. But what makes the P180 what it is, is the amount of performance it packs, with mindblowing mileage(40+) in a package of just 58000Rs.
Bottomline- Perfect fusion of Looks, Performance,Mileage and Price.
Performance- 85/100
Mileage- 95/100
Looks- 75/100

RX 100/Shogun - If you’re in your twenties, you must remember the traffic lights where you raced your 2 stroke screamer. Those were the days. When petrol was cheap, there were no pollution norms, no strict policemen, when you could hear one of these bikes from a mile away. Twist the wrist and behold, blue smoke all over behind you blinding the CD 100 owners and you dissapeared away in the smoke. RX 100 was 98cc and 11 bhp. But it packed a punch. Shogun was made with one thing in mind, beating the crap outta’ the RX 100. Made 14.2bhp out of its 108cc engine. Both when ported and when fitted with an expansion chamber can beat the pants out of P180/Zma and the likes and just about keep up with an RD 350. But shogun suffered from reliability problems. RX 100 went on and on and on. Even now you can spot many RX’s around. Two of the most simple yet powerful bikes ever made.
Bottomline- I prefer an RX over these 16-17bhp tree huggers. Need i say more? ;-)
Performance - 75/100

HH Splendor/Passion/CD 100- Yes these bikes set the sales charts on fire but only because of these bikes we are (still)deprived of Big Bikes.
Bajaj CT 100- A small(but good) package of looks and mileage, reliability still a question.
Bajaj Pulsar 150(all versions)- A killing combination of performance, looks and mileage which half of the biking population have invested in.

The bike has got very less weight and this makes it very easy to handle and control, especially in city traffic. A very low price makes it the most affordable bike in India today.
19.TVS STAR CITY:- This is the only 100cc bike which has got a self start. This bike also has alloy wheels and modern styling. It has a 99cc engine which gives 7.5bhp power and excellent torque at lower rpms. It also has got additional features like ride switch and economy indicators as in Star City.
'Grand Theft Auto IV'
| The most anticipated game of 2008 has to be Rockstar’s “Grand Theft Auto IV.” This franchise has a legion of fans whose appetite for larceny, murder and fast cars has only grown since its release date was pushed back from last year’s holiday season. They’ll finally get their chance to live their life of crime when “GTA4” (for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems) hits the streets April 29th. |
'Super Smash Bros. Brawl'
| Nintendo may be known for games filled with cute and cuddly characters, but in its “Super Smash Bros.” franchise those same characters lay the smack down on each other. “Super Smash Bros. Brawl,” available for the Nintendo Wii on March 9th, features fan favorites Mario and Donkey Kong, as well as many others, fighting head-to-head and in group battles. And for the first time in the series' history the game will have Wi-Fi, so you can take on your friends no matter where they live. |
Spore'
Electronic Arts’ “Spore” is aiming to become the Big Daddy of all simulation games. In it, players control the evolution of a species, starting as a microscopic organism and working your way up to a complex life form. You’ll build societies, conquer the planet, and even venture into space, where you’ll encounter and colonize other worlds.
There’s no doubt that “Spore” (which will be available Sept. 7th for the PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and mobile phones) is a bold endeavor on a massive scale. But if anyone can pull it off, it’s probably designer Will Wright - the man who also created “The Sims.”
Ghostbusters: The Video Game'
We’re big fans of the “Ghostbusters” films starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. That’s why we were so excited when we heard that “Ghostbusters: The Video Game” was going to feature the original cast doing the voice work. But when we found out that Aykroyd and Ramis, writers of the original screenplays, were also writing the game’s script, we were just plain ecstatic.
With the original crew creating an all-new adventure starring you as the new recruit, “Ghostbusters: The Video Game” could be thought of as an interactive sequel, a “Ghostbusters III” if you will, instead of a run-of-the-mill movie-based game.
Sierra’s “Ghostbusters: The Video Game,” which will be available for most systems, is expected to ship in the fall.
The Agency'
Are you a fan of massively multiplayer online games but tired of playing some medieval fantasy character? Would you prefer to play as a James Bond-style spy instead? Then Sony’s “The Agency” (available for both the PC and PS3) is something you definitely need to check out.
You can use stealth and subterfuge - as well as some crazy gadgets - to fight terrorism, or you can be the mercenary out to wreak havoc. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait to see if you have what it takes to be a secret agent. Sony has yet to set a solid release date for “The Agency.”
Break-in Period:
The first 1000 miles of your new motorcycle are designated as the "break-in period." In order for your engine to seal itself and break-in properly, follow the specific instructions listed in your owner's manual. To ensure proper oil distribution among all engine parts, be sure to allow your engine to warm up before you ride. An extra minute of warm-up will allow the engine oil to circulate to all needed engine parts. Do not race or rev your engine immediately after starting. When riding during the break-in period, accelerate gradually and try not to travel at any one speed for a long period of time. Please refer to your owners manual for specific directions on how to break-in your model properly.
General Safety tips:
Always inspect your motorcycle before every ride.
- Tire pressure
- Headlights
- Oil level
- Cables and suspension
Before starting the engine, always use the rule of "FINE-C" as your pre-start checklist:
- Fuel-Fuel valve on
- Ignition-Ignition switch on
- Neutral-Shift the transmission into neutral.
- Engine cut-off switch-Set the switch to the run position
- Choke and clutch-Set the choke according to the engine's temperature. Squeeze the clutch if the electric starter on your motorcycle requires it.
Other saftey tips:
- Always be sure to wear the proper riding apparel including boots, gloves, eye protection and helmet.
- Do not ride while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Always be alert for other drivers and riders around you.
- Maintain your bike in good condition.
- Tread lightly when off-road and respect the environment. Ride responsibly.
- Remember motorcycle safety begins and ends with you.
Cleaning tip:
For the prolonged life of your motorcycle, always wash down immediately after being exposed to seawater, rain, dusty roads or salt scattered on icy roads. By following these precautions you can prolong the life and performance of your motorcycle:
Before washing...
- Cover the rear openings of your muffler with plastic bags and secure with rubber bands (be sure your mufflers are not hot to the touch or they will melt the plastic bags!)
- Cover the brake levers, switch housings, ignition switch, instruments and air cleaner cover with plastic bags to avoid a direct spray of water.
- Be careful when spraying the brakes, master cylinders and calipers.
- Try not to spray under the fuel tank. If water gets into the ignition coils or the spark plug caps your bike will not start!
- Do not spray directly into the front and rear wheel hubs, steering pivot and swingarm pivot.
- Repeated, direct exposure to water will cause rust and corrosion.
- NEVER wax or lubricate the brake discs. Clean disc surfaces with an oilless solvent such as trichloroethylene or acetone.
After washing...
- Remove all plastic bags and wipe all covered components dry.
- Wipe off brake discs with dry, clean cloth.
- Start engine and allow to idle for at least 5 minutes.
- Clean the entire vehicle thoroughly.
- Run engine for a few minutes to warm the oil.
- Completely drain out the old oil and replace with fresh engine oil. Dispose of oil properly.
- Empty all fuel from the tank and empty the carburetor by unscrewing the drain screw at the float bowl. (Fuel left in the carburetor will break down and clog essential cmponents).
- Dispose of fuel properly.
- Remove the empty fuel tank, pour about a half-pint of motor oil into tank and roll the tank around to coat the inner surfaces thoroughly to prevent rust. Pour out the excess oil when finished.
- Dispose of oil properly.
- Remove the spark plugs and put several drops of motor oil into each cylinder.
- Turn engine over a few times to coat the cylinder walls with oil.
- Replace spark plugs to seal out moisture. Reduce tire pressure by about 20%. If possible, set the motorcycle on a box or stand so both wheels are suspended above the ground. If you cannot find a box or stand, just place boards under the tires to keep moisture from deteriorating the rubber.
- Spray lubricant or oil on unpainted metal surfaces to prevent rusting.
- DO NOT spray oil on rubber parts and hoses.
- Lubricate all cables.

Portable Firefox
Portable Firefox 3.0.3 from Portable Apps/John T. Haller
Extensions
ChromiGlass by Triton (Version 1.01b.1.0.16) *Requires Mozilla Account & Login*
This is what helps to move the tabs to the top of the browser and turn them just the same way as Iron/Chromium/Chrome while providing the Aero glass effect beside the tabs as well.
Personal Menu by Merci Chao (Version 4.1pre)
This helps hides the Menu Bar (the Menu Bar temporarily reappears when you push the Alt key).
Theme
Chromifox by Falconer (Version 1.0)
Sets up the overall Chrome look and feel.
Setup Instructions
- Install portable Firefox. (The Desktop is an easy access place for it.)
- Once you have your new portable Firefox ready to go, install the Chromifox theme and both extensions.
- Restart portable Firefox.
- Once you have restarted, you will notice that things look a little bit weird at the top of the browser. You will have top to bottom: your tabs (with lots of Aero glass effect goodness), your menu bar, a odd, very thin Aero glass effect strip, your navigation bar, and the bookmarks bar.
- The first thing to do is go to "View" in your Menu Bar, go to Toolbars, and deselect Menu Bar (this is where the Personal Menu extension helps out since this is usually not available in the menu). This also helps to remove the odd, very thin Aero glass effect strip. Optional: If you want to hide the status bar, you can do that at this time as well.
- Next, right click in your Navigation Bar and select Customize. You can now pull your search bar into the Customize Window in order to hide it. While you have the Customize Window open, pull the icon for the Personal Menu extension into the Search Bar's former position. This helps to more closely match the two icon appearance on the right side of Iron/Chromium/Chrome and gives you easy access to the additional options for the Personal Menu extension if you would like to use them.
- Remove any pre-included bookmarks that came with Portable Firefox that you do not want to keep and add your favorites.
After a little more experimentation, I have the final list of extensions along with the theme used to turn my portable Firefox into an extremely good copy of Iron/Chromium/Chrome.
The extensions that I used help to reproduce the look and also many of the particular functions found in Iron/Chromium/Chrome. Note: The Omnibar extension mentioned in previous comments caused problems with the ChromiGlass extension.

n this article you will learn how to create a very basic animated gif consisting of two frames. I have used Paint Shop Pro but you can employ your favorite graphic program. I recommend that you first read the article on animated Gifs, if you haven't do so already. Animated Gifs are gif images that consist of two or more frames, which are played one after the other to give a semblance of animation - quite like standard animation techniques.
The individual frames in an animated gif can be created as separate images that are then brought togheter to form an animated Gif. And this is how we will make our animated image. We will first create two images that form the two frames of our animation and then bring them together to form the Gif image.
Image #1 (60 X 60 pixels)
Image #2 (60 X 60 pixels)
I've created the above two images in PaintShop Pro... you can use any image editing tool. Let us now see how we can combine these two images to create an animated gif.
Start the animated gif creation program. I've used Animation Shop, which comes free with Paint Shop Pro. This is a great tool and very simple to use. It also has lots of great features and built-in effects for creating animated Gifs. (To know more about Animation Shop, click here.)
Click on File - Animation Wizard. Make sure that the "Same size as the first image frame" radio button is selected. Click on Next.
Set the Image canvas color to Transparent (select the Transparent radio button) and click on Next.
In the next window, make sure the "Upper left corner of frame" and "With canvas color" radio buttons are selected and "Scale frames to fit" checkbox is not checked.
You can either have your animated gif repeat endlessly or specify the number of loops. As of now, select the "Yes, repeat the animation indefinitely" radio button. You can also set the time for which each frame will be displayed. Change this value to 50. Thus, each frame will play for 50/100 or 1/2 a second. Click on Next.
Now, click on the Add Image button and browse to the two images you made previously.
You can selecte multiple images using SHIFT-CLICK or CONTROL-CLICK combinations. Animation Shop also lets you adjust the sequence of images. You can change the sequence by first clicking on the image you have added and then clicking the Move Up or Move Down buttons.
Click Next and then click on the Finish button.
Animation Shop now displays your two images in the specified sequence.
Viewing the animation
Click on the View Animation buttonSaving the animation
To save our creation, click on File - Save As. Type in a name for the animated gif and click on Save. Select the number of colors by dragging the scale. Remember, more number of colors, the larger the gif. It is always a good idea to duplicate (CONTROL-D) the animated image you have created before saving and then check the size of the file and the look of the image under different color depths. We'll save this image with 16 colors (4 bit color depth).
Here is how our animated Gif image looks like.

In the next article, I will provide instructions on creating a more complex animated Gif image - Animated Gif banners. Animated Gifs have been exploited to their full potential as animated advertising banners on the web. They provide an easy and cross-platform compatible way of displaying animation on web pages. Though web banners created in Flash have given animated gif banners a run for their money, its always a good idea to have an animated gif version of the Flash banner, which can be displayed on the client browsers in which the Flash plugin is no installed.
DownThemAll (All Platforms)
![[Image]](http://lifehacker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/09/downthemall.png)
Firefox extension DownThemAll (dTa) is a powerful download manager with a stable of advanced features to enhance your download experience. As the name suggests, one marquee feature of dTa is the ability to download every image or linked file on a page in one fell swoop; if you don't want every file, dTa has advanced filtering criteria to help you get exactly what you want. What's more, dTa can also boost your download speeds up to 400% by splitting files into multi-part downloads. If you're new to dTa, check out our guide to supercharging your Firefox downloads with DownThemAll.
FlashGet (Windows)
![[Image]](http://lifehacker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/09/flashget-hive.png)
FlashGet is a free, standalone Windows download manager. The application delivers tons of advanced features like DownThemAll, including pause and resume, file splitting, and download acceleration. FlashGet can organize your downloads once they're saved to your computer and it supports multiple transfer protocols, from HTTP and FTP to BitTorrent. If you like the look of FlashGet and you're a Firefox user, be sure to grab the FlashGot Firefox extension to integrate FlashGet directly with your Firefox downloads. It also has specialized features for downloading flash video from the likes of YouTube.
Free Download Manager (Windows)
![[Image]](http://lifehacker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/09/fdm-hive.png)
Free Download Manager (FDM) is a beefy open-source download manager with an impressive feature set similar to DownThemAll and FlashGet. It supports download acceleration, file splitting, and multiple transfer protocol support. FDM and FlashGet both display an always-on-top translucent drop box on your desktop so you can easily drag new downloads into the app, and like FlashGet, you can integrate FDM directly with Firefox with the FlashGot extension.
Download Statusbar Firefox Extension (All Platforms)
![[Image]](http://lifehacker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/09/download-statusbar-hive.png)
The Download Statusbar Firefox extension streamlines and supercharges Firefox's default download manager and doesn't use a separate window do to it—instead it places downloads and progress bars in Firefox's statusbar (fitting name, isn't it?). That's not all that Download Statusbar offers, though: The add-on also integrates with your anti-virus application for automatic download scanning, has several configurable options, and is totally customizable. If you liked the streamlined look of downloads when we took you on a screenshot tour of Google Chrome, Download Statusbar brings the same basic look and feel to Firefox.
Firefox's Built-In Download Manager (All Platforms)
![[Image]](http://lifehacker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/09/default-firefox-downloader.png)
Sometimes the built-in tools are all you need, which is why many readers still prefer Firefox's built-in download manager to handle their downloads. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other featured download managers—the most notable new features in Firefox's download manager are as-you-type search and pause and resume of downloads—but it's solid, and that's all many people are looking for.
Super is a free media converter that acts as a graphical front end to several of the most powerful command line tools like FFmpeg, MEncoder, and MPlayer. The application boasts extensive options for customizing your preferences with virtually any aspect of your conversion. The downside to that control is that Super's interface is cluttered and intimidating for first-time users. Luckily for most purposes, converting a file to the right format with Super is as simple as selecting your output format (e.g., Apple iPod) and just sticking with the defaults.
FormatFactory (Windows)
Format Factory is a free media converter for Windows that converts video, audio, and even images between formats. With a nice icon-driven interface for helping you choose the kind of conversion you're looking for, FormatFactory is one of the friendliest batch media converters you'll find.
MediaCoder (All Platforms)
MediaCoder is a batch media transcoder that converts video and audio from and to most popular formats through a powerful graphical interface. Like Super, MediaCoder is a front-end for a number of command line media tools, allowing you to get as simple or complex as you want with your conversions. MediaCoder is available on all platforms, but it's best supported on Windows. MediaCoder is also available in device-specific flavors for the iPhone and iPod touch, PSP and more.
HandBrake (All Platforms)
HandBrake is a popular open-source media converter that encodes video from DVDs to many popular output formats. Available in both graphical and command line flavors, HandBrake can't convert the range of formats the rest can—it's limited to MPEG video (that includes DVD video). HandBrake easily earns its place as one of the five best DVD ripping tools, but it doesn't have the versatility of many of the other applications featured in this Hive.
FFmpeg (All Platforms)
FFmpeg is free, cross platform command-line encoding tool that powers many of the more popular graphical applications in this Hive Five. While FFmpeg has more of a learning curve than the rest, it's also undeniably powerful and flexible. If converting your media from the command line with FFmpeg appeals to you, check out how to FFmpeg your way to media conversion bliss..
Another classic data leakage….and once again it happend on Ebay! This time it’s a British agency known as MI6 (Secret Intelligence Service) demonstrating a distinct lack of intelligence.
How on earth does something like even happen? Even smaller agencies and companies I’ve worked with have rigorous data destruction policies when old equipment is recycled or sold off, I’m sure MI6 has something similar.
The UK government is investigating how a digital camera containing terrorist images apparently taken by MI6 was sold on eBay.Terrorist information, names and more for only £17! What a bargain.
The Nikon CoolPix camera was bought for £17 by a 28 year-old man from Hertfordshire and contained the names of al-Qaeda members, fingerprints and suspects’ academic records as well as pictures of rocket launchers and missiles, according to The Sun.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that a police investigation is under way.”
However she refused to comment on whether the camera was put on sale by an MI6 operative, despite it containing details of MI6’s computer network.
It does puzzle me a bit htouhg, why would all of these documents be stored on a camera? Perhaps someone using the camera to covertly move documents out of MI6?
It seems odd for anything other than images to be on a CoolPix.
MI6 is the foreign intelligence service for the UK government with a broadly similar remit as the US CIA.Really bad PR for the agency I must say…at least no harm came of it and it was exposed so hopefully someone in power will do something about it and make sure the policies that I’m sure they have are implemented and enforced properly.
Terrorism author Neil Doyle said: “These are MI6 documents relating to an operation against al-Qaeda insurgents in Iraq. It’s jaw-dropping that they got into the public domain.
“Not only do they divulge secrets about operations, operating systems and previously unheard-of MI6 departments, but they could put lives at risk.”
There’s no point having policies and procedures if they aren’t enforced, it’s not just good to do the paperwork, you have to put it in practice too!

Symantec said the deal will help it strengthen its position in the software-as-a-service market. Symantec will focus on cross-selling and up-selling its existing SaaS offerings of backup, storage, and online remote access into the MessageLabs customer base.
MessageLabs generated approximately $145 million in revenue during fiscal year 2008, ended July 31, the companies said. The deal is expected to close by the end of the 2008 calendar year.

Firefox 3 has a “feature” that auto-fills a website that you wish to go to as you’re typing in the Location bar.
I wanted to turn this off, but without turning off other auto complete functionality:
- I want to retain the autocomplete in forms (which can be managed from
Tools -> Options -> Privacy) - I also want to retain the autocomplete in the search box on the right (which can be turned off by right-clicking inside the box, and then checking off “
Show Suggestions”)
about:config” I discovered that this was possible. Just follow these steps:- In the location bar, type
about:config. The location bar is of course the place where you type URLs. Note that this is your internal Firefox configuration. Don’t mess with it. - In the text box that appears at the top of this page, enter
browser.urlbar.maxRichResultsas the preference name. - Set the value to 0 if you wish to disable the auto-complete altogether. I have it set to 2 so I get some suggestions but it doesn’t crowd up the experience.
Youtube uses a flag system that allows users to report videos as inappropriate which according to Youtube means any violation of the Youtube terms of service. A flagged video will be reviewed by an administrator who has numerous options at hand including setting the flag for age verification which requires users to login before they can view the video. Age verification is pretty basic and anyone who cheated on his birthday can watch the video after logging in.
The message that gets displayed when a user who is not logged in loads a video with age verification is the following: “This video or group may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube’s user community. To view this video or group, please verify you are 18 or older by signing in or signing up.”
Numerous ways to bypass that age verification check have been posted which included using caches and proxies. The Firefox extension You Old Enough provides users with another way. The experimental add-on will check if the video on Youtube is flagged for age verification and open it immediately in a popup window.
This means that it is possible to watch all videos on Youtube that require age verification without having to login to the system.
UrlbarExt is an experimental Firefox add-on that adds a few interesting functions to the Firefox location bar. Users who do not have an account but would like to install the add-on could use one of the available logins from Bugmenot It adds six new icons to the right side of the Firefox location bar which look a lot like the icons that the Tagmarks extension is adding in that place. Users with the Tagmarks extension enabled might run into troubles. This has not been tested and is just an assumption.
The icons provide easy access to the following functions:

MultiEyeVision, has launched a tool called Observer that turns mobile phones into remote monitoring cameras. The camera’s images can be viewed from any internet connected device. You need a GPRS enable smartphone for this, or you can buy a pre-configured mobile phone from them
How does it work? You need to download and install the Observer software on your mobile phone (or use the pre configured mobile phone sold by the company). Once thats done, just start the application and point it where you want to shoot. The streamed images are viewable from your account on their website; you can also control the settings of the observer (capture frequency, picture resolution, capture timings) from the web. The images can be stored for viewing later or even get emailed to you at specific times. The tool/software can run continually for 48 to 72 hours after which it needs to be restarted. On battery, it runs for 4-8 hours.
What the Observer does not support is video streaming, due to the limitations of GPRS (which requires higher transfer speeds). It can however transmit image streams upto a rate of 3 images per minute, which is adequate for many situations. The Observer is aimed at a variety of consumer or business use cases.
The pre configured phones are based on Nokia & Sony-Ericcson models (Nokia 3500, Nokia 6300 & Sony Ericcson W810i) and cost between 8K-12 K INR. For using the software with your own phone, you’d need to pay 2.5K INR.
In fact, if there are unused mobile phones lying with you, they can be configured as well for this application. Details here.
Tagg is a free web & mobile based mass messaging platform that you can use for any of your purposes. This could be for (seemingly) noble causes like group SMS, micro-blogging etc, or for less noble ones like spamming users with unsolicited SMS (by users, not by Tagg).
The way it works is fairly simple. You can start a group (called Taggivity) which others can subscribe to. You can send out updates that will get forwarded to all the subscribers. This can be done from the web interface or from the mobile usings SMS. Their revenue model is based on advertising - text/banners ad on the website and a short ad that is appended to SMS’s being sent out.
Group SMS is actually a valuable service. I can imagine lots of people wanting to use this - organisations, schools, teachers, salesmen etc. The ability to send our free SMS to all subscribers (who could be students, employees, friends, family members etc) is fairly useful. Specially when its free. And SMS is a proven winner…. no GPRS, EDGE, 3G hangovers there.
SMSgupshup is a similar service and I believe, it has a fair bit of traction as well. So how is Tagg any different from SMSgupshup? Well the Tagg team insists that they are more focused on user experience- as a result they have a normal number 9980199801 as opposed to a shortcode, which also means its cheaper for user to post through their service. Not entirely convincing, I would say!
The web application could do with better layout & design, specially on the landing page for an individual group.
For ex: if you delete a mail on your phone, it will be still there in server. IMAP is more advanced which syncs both mail boxes. Whatever you do on any place, gets reflected everywhere. Thankfully Gmail provides IMAP access for all the accounts, you have to enable it by going to “Settings–>Forwarding & POP/IMAP”. Basic GPRS plans like Airtel Live & Vodafone Live doesn’t provide IMAP access, you have to activate Airtel Mobile Office & or Vodafone Mobile Connect.
Configuring on Phone:
This configuration is for Phones which come up with inbuilt mail client, if your phone doesn’t have that try using gmail mobile app available at http://m.google.com.
Open email client on your phone, goto “Settings–>Add new email” & configure as mentioned below:
Incoming Mail Server:
Email/user ID: Your Gmail ID
Password: Gmail Password
Incoming Mail Server: imap.google.com
Mailbox name: Gmail (you can use anyting)
Mailbox Type: IMAP4
Security Ports: SSL
Port: 993 or Default in some phones
Outgoing Mail Server:
Email/user ID: Your Gmail ID
Password: Gmail Password
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.google.com
Security Ports: SSL/TSL
Port: 465 or 587 or Default in some phones
After configuration connect to your mailbox, now you wil receive emails as soon as they arrive!
Many of us use gmail because of it’s simple design & featureset it has to offer us. Google has introduced a new security feature for gmail, remote lagout. Many of use more than two computers to login to gmail. If you take my example, I login to gmail from home & office. Some times we often leave the browser opened & not being logged out of gmail, if the computer is at office or any public place your account might be mis-used. Now sitting at home computer you can logout of gmail in office computer or any other computer.
Footer in gmail contains your session details, when you last logged in & from which IP.
You can click on “Details” link which shows you a pop-up having details about your last sessions.
Check for all the sessions, see all are yours or somebody else is logging into your account! Click on “Sign out all other sessions” to sign out of gmail at all other places exept the current.
Microsoft is providing 5GB of space to store your files online. As the above picture illustrates, you can save files for yourself, share files with friends & also share on world wide web. It provides three level of access control for your files.
Private: Store files which are only accessible to you. This could be used to store files which are private & should not be accessible to anyone else.
Shared: Share files only with your friends, but they need to have an MSN or Hotmail account. Other than your friends can’t access these files.
Public: Upload files to public folder to make it available to everyone. After uploading files you can share link with anyone & they can download the file. If you have a web page or blog & want to provide a download to your visitors, it also provides attractive badges to insert in your web pages. Clicking on it, user can download that file.
Users who already have MSN or Hotmail account can straightaway start using it by logging in. If you don’t have one, you can sign up for a free account. Sign up or login to Skydrive at http://skydrive.live.com/

IF u want to convert the .flv files downloaded from streaming sites and in your hard disk try this freeware flv converter converts flv video into four popular formats. AVI,MOV,MP4 & 3GP (for Mobile Phones). Its a very tiny
software 2.53Mb of download & takes 8-9 Mb of disc space after installing.
This FLV converter saves output file at the same path where input file was provided.Converted videos
are of good quality & doesn’t contain any Labels/Ads/Links.Totally its a very good FLV converter.Only two features lacking are:
1. There is no provision to select output path.

convert them one by one.
But these are negligable since its a Freeware & tiny.

We have recently found out about the latest in an ongoing string of email scams that target Microsoft customers. This particular scam contains the Backdoor:Win32/Haxdoor trojan as an attachment. We have seen a few emails targeting Microsoft customers that look like the email below:
Dear Microsoft Customer,Please notice that Microsoft company has recently issued a Security Update for OS Microsoft Windows. The update applies to the following OS versions: Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows Millenium, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista. Please notice, that present update applies to high-priority updates category. In order to help protect your computer against security threats and performance problems, we strongly recommend you to install this update.Since public distribution of this Update through the official website http://www.microsoft.com would have result in efficient creation of a malicious software, we made a decision to issue an experimental private version of an update for all Microsoft Windows OS users. As your computer is set to receive notifications when new updates are available, you have received this notice. In order to start the update, please follow the step-by-step instruction:
1. Run the file, that you have received along with this message.
2. Carefully follow all the instructions you see on the screen. If nothing changes after you have run the file, probably in the settings of your OS you have an indication to run all the updates at a background routine. In that case, at this point the upgrade of your OS will be finished. We apologize for any inconvenience this back order may be causing you.Thank you,

According to this article from the USA Today, Hackers broke into 18 Servers at the World Bank and had access to and possibly stole sensitive information from at-least 5 of the servers. Indian Banks have been relatively lucky, facing a majority of phishing/scam attacks rather then out-right "Hack" attempts from skilled organized criminals such as these.
Throughout my time as a Security Professional whenever discussing Financial Fraud, Phishing and other attacks faced by Banks & Financial Institutions, I have always been of the opinion that they will soon face much more devastating attacks that will make the current attempts pale in comparison.
Why the pessimistic view? Well its simple.
Attackers have always been "creative" coming up with new and complicated schemes in-order to get access to Credit-Card details and Banking Information. The reason they have the time and ability to do so is: Economics. Bottom-line is that most of these attackers are walking away with fistfuls of money at the expense of Banks and their Customers.
If we consider a typical phishing scam, an attacker would send out a million e-mails (approximation) with a success rate at best of 1% (a very generous number considering that a good percent would be picked up by Anti-Spam, Anti-phishing, Mistargeted Users, Smart Users etc) they will walk away with 10000 working banking details.
Instead if the attacker starts targeting servers belonging to Banks, systems belonging to Bank Employees and more importantly any of the thousands of Indian Shopping web-sites with Exposed Customer Information, SQL Injection vulnerabilities etc they could walk away with 100K - 200K Credit-Card details or Banking Information.
As a matter of fact, last week, a colleague of mine ordered for a product from one of the most popular Indian Shopping Portals. When the product was delivered; the label was a print-out invoice at the bottom of which was the URL: http://shopping-website/ecommerce/admin/vieworders.php. After typing this into the browser we were shown WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION plain-text Credit Card details, Order Information, Banking Details etc.
This for sure is one reason, why I do-not personally carry out Online Banking or Shopping besides for maybe on Amazon.com or my Bank Account with Free Fraud Insurance.
ClickJacking is a relatively old vulnerabilitiy that has been around since 2003-2004, however it has been recently brought back to life by Robert Hansen and Jeremiah Grossman. ClickJacking is a little bit difficult to explain however try to imagine any button that you see in your browser from the Wire Transfer Button on your Bank, Post Blog button on your blog, Add user button on your web-site etc. ClickJacking gives the attacker to ability to invisibly float these buttons on-top of other innocent looking objects in your browser. So when you try to click on the innocent object, you are actually clicking on the malicious button that is floating on top invisibly.
So while you are simply trying to close the javascript pop-up on your screen, play a flash game or interact with some ajax web-site -- you might really be clicking on the button to wire-transfer money to a russian bank account.
A slightly more technical description would be: A malicious page in domain A may create an IFRAME pointing to an application in domain B, to which the user is currently authenticated with cookies. The top-level page may then cover portions of the IFRAME with other visual elements to seamlessly hide everything but a single UI button in domain B, such as 'delete all items,' 'click to add Bob as a admin,' etc. It may then provide its own, misleading UI that implies that the button serves a different purpose and is a part of site A, inviting the user to click it.
In other words, the hacker would dupe users into visiting a malicious page -- through the usual methods -- but then hide the nasty bits under what appears to be the real-deal content from a legitimate site.
How Serious is ClickJacking?
On its own ClickJacking doesn't sound to be a very serious vulnerability, since user interaction is required. However as I have always said, in the world of vulnerabilities 1+1 does not always equal to 2, and might just equal to 10^2. By this I simply mean, that ClickJacking in combination with other vulnerabilities could become a very serious issue.
Example - ClickJacking can Spy on your Webcam and Microphone
Just as I wrote this blogpost a new use for ClickJacking has been disclosed where it can be used to spy on your Microphone and Webcam. This is based on a new vulnerability discovered in Adobe's Flash Software and published about on Guya.net, Rsnake's Blog and Jerremiah Grossman's Blog.
A particular vulnerability exists in Adobe's Flash Software, which allows the malicious attacker to use ClickJacking to gain access to the user's web-cam and microphone.
The vulnerability works as follows:
1) You visit a web-page with a flash application/game embedded in it.
2) You click on the flash button.
3) Your click is "click-jacked" into allowing the server to access your web-cam and microphone.
Whatis really happening:
1) You visit the web-page, in the back the target application (in this case Adobe's Settings Panel) is loaded and made invisible. The Allow button is made to float invisibly.
2) While you click on the flash button, the invisible Allow button is floating on top of the flash button and actually receives your click.
3) The Flash application now has full permission to access your web-cam, microphone etc and even have it stream to a server where it is recorded for future viewing.
You can see a video of this in action at: Youtube and Vimeo.
Everyone one of us has a username on the sites we are a member of. And the reason why many of us have a unique online codename is just to maintain a single username as a matter of convinence. Isn’t it? Now in this Web 2.0 world, we may sometimes come across a service in which our username is already taken by someone. So today I am sharing a service named UserNameCheck which lets you know the availability of your username across several site.
So use this service to check the availablity of your username and get yourself those which are still available so as to represent yourself uniquely with a single username. Its a very important in branding yourself. Moreover you can use this to find a unique username that doesn’t exist on these services.
Open the youtube video page in firefox 3. Allow the video to play once.
Now the video is finished playing. Open a new tab in firefox 3. In the location bar (address bar) type
about:cache
and press enter. A new page will load. In the page see the heading
Disk cache device
Under that there is “Cache Directory”. There will be a long address similar to one shown below
C:\Documents and Settings\usrname\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\abcd123h.default\Cache
Copy the full address (You must copy the cache link address from your computer. The above address is just to show and make you understand). Now open “My Computer”. In the address bar paste the already copied long address.
A folder will open. This folder contains the youtube video file in the form of cache. Note that the video file will be big in size. Now open VLC Media player or any other flv player. Drag and drop the bigger cache file in the media player. The file that plays the video is your video file. Copy and paste it in desktop. Rename the file to yourvideo1.flv (or any other name of your choice with flv extension).
Now you have saved the youtube video right from your firefox 3 cache rather than downloading it again.
You can watch the saved video while offline.
Tested in WinXP, Firefox3

3. You can open a link in an incognito window by right-clicking the link and selecting Open link in incognito window.
4. Alt + Home loads your Google Chrome home page, with thumbnails of your most visited sites shown in the active tabbed window.
5. Control + T opens a new tab. You can drag tabs around to change their order or drag a tab out of the window into its own window.
6. Control + Shift + T opens your most recently closed tab. Press the key combination again to open the tab closed before that one. Google Chrome remembers the last 10 tabs you’ve closed.
7. Jump to different open tabs using Control + 1, Control + 2, Control + 3, etc. Control + 9 takes you to the last tab.
8. Control + Tab lets you cycle through your open tabs in order.
9. Control + Shift + Tab cycles through your tabs in the opposite order.
10. As with Firefox 3, you can drag a link onto a tab to open it in that tab, or drop it between two tabs to open a new tab in that position.
11. To bookmark a site click the star on the left of the address bar and then select a folder to add it to.
12. Control +B hides the Google Chrome bookmarks bar. Press Control + B to bring it back again.
13. Right-click or hold down the back button and you’ll get a drop-down list of sites to go back through. Show Full History, at the bottom of the list, opens a new tab with your full browser history.
14. Control + H is a faster way to bring up the History page.
15. You can delete history for chosen days by scrolling to the day you want to delete and clicking Delete history for this day on the right-hand side of the window.
16. Control + J brings up your Downloads page.
17. To clear an item from your Downloads page, right-click an entry and select Remove.
18. Press Control + K or Control + E to search from the address bar. Once pressed, you’ll see a ? symbol appear in the address bar and you can simply enter your search query and hit Return.
19. Right-click the top of the browser window and select Task manager to see how much memory different tabs and plug-ins are using. Highlight one and click End process to stop it running.
20. Shift + Escape is a quicker way to bring up the Google Chrome Task manager.
21. To see what plug-ins are installed, type about:plugins into the address window.
22. You can also type the following commands into the Google Chrome address window: about:stats, about:network, about:histograms, about:memory, about:cache, about:dns.
23. Type about:crash to see what a crashed tab looks like.
24. A three-second diversion: type about:internets. (Only works in Windows XP.)
25. Edit any web page - right-click a page and select Inspect element. Now edit the HTML source code and hit Return to view the changes.
26. To make Google Chrome your default browser, click the Tools button (in the right-hand corner of the browser window - a spanner icon). Select Options, click the Basics tab and then click the Make Google Chrome my default browser button.
27. To delete cookies, go to Tools > Options > Under the Hood. Scroll down to the Security section, and click Show cookies. Now you can click Remove all or remove individual cookies.
28. To clear more data such as the Google Chrome browsing history and cache, click the Tools icon and select Clear browsing data…
29. To clear the most visited web sites that appear on your Google Chrome start page, you must clear your browsing history using the method above.
30. Clearing your Google Chrome browser history will also stop matches from previously browsed sites appearing as suggestions in your address bar.
